ELECTIVES – DYEING WITH MICROBES
Although humans have used natural colors since the stone age, nowadays the development of chemistry has provided colors with a large variety and stability but with negative effects on the environment.
Bacteria and fungi are natural new sources of pigments to be exploded.
During the Electives, the students got introduced to several practices:
- Shibori
- Bacteria dye
- Fungi dye by Ilse Kremer
Questions that the students reflected on for their assignment:
-What is the hidden cost of life of the current system?
-What does it mean to use life for your pleasure?
-How can we respect life while working in art and design?
